What I do know about radiant in gypcrete is you either need sleepers (you don't) or you need to lay down a ply mat as you suggested (not an option). Hardwood over radiant is done all the time out west in cooler areas - the blessing we have is a limited humidity swing so expansion and contraction isn't as bad as other areas.

Re: Wood floors over radiant heat in gypcrete Sounds like Jim's technique works, but without being able to add any height to the floor it doesn't help a whole lot, eh? But, it was radiant embedded in a thick structural floor, I would think the results would be better in gypcrete. Didn't work well enough to have 100% confidence of the exact location of all the tubes. I've tried running the system and then using an IR camera to find the tubes. Whatever you do, I would make sure the installation method preserves the manufactures' warranty. I agree, you are relegated to something glue-down. Is it not possible to glue down an engineered product over the radiant? I have been on a job without radiant heat and we did just glue down engineered onto the gypcrete.Wow, that's tough to come in on the job at this point. It appears that the intent was to place 3/4"+/- hardwood over the lightweight concrete. But the all the elevations are already set with exterior thresholds, stairs, etc and there is no room to go up. I was thinking two layers of 3/4" perpendicular then naildown, which is what I have done over slabs in the past. But this hardwood floor thing is throwing me for a loop and I am trying to be proactive. The elevations on the pours are already off and that is going to be a headache.

I was referred over to the job by some of the rough trade subs, so I am working with what has already been done.
